Each year, people wait with baited breath to hear what color Pantone names as the official color of the year. Fashion designers find ways to work the color into their latest designs, stores begin purchasing items in the color in mass quantities, and of course, hardware stores will create a massive paint display with the latest color.
But what does the color of the year mean for you? What are you supposed to do with it? First, let us explain the official Color of the Year.
For 2016, Pantone chose “Rose Quartz & Serenity” as the color of the year. The colors are softer this year than in past, and for the first time, they blended two shades to create the color of the year. Here is how Pantone described “Rose Quartz & Serenity”.
“Weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, Serenity comforts with a calming effect, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times. Rose Quartz is a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure.”
Leatrice Eiseman, the Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, explains their choice for Color of the Year. “Joined together, Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.”
Now, how do you take this color and apply it to your life or home?
“Rose Quartz & Serenity” are calming, welcoming shades that could easily be incorporated into your home. These light, relaxing shades would work well as paint colors in bedrooms or a bathroom, but would also make lovely accent touches throughout the home.
Quartz and crystal accent pieces and home decor would be a great way to add tranquility to your home while embracing the Pantone Color of the Year. This will also be a popular trend this year for jewelry and fashion, we’re sure to be seeing crystal shades popping up on the runway and in stores very soon.
Color is a great way to express yourself and open your eyes to something new and different. Use the Color of the Year (or in this case, the Colors) as a way to test out new waters and experiment with color.
