Recently, we received a call from a homeowner that was looking to have the cupolas on top of their home repaired. The painting contractor that was working on the home suggested that they reach out to RIGGS to see if the cupolas were even worth repairing.
Upon investigating the cupola on both the garage and the main home, we determined that they were both rotting from the inside out, making it very difficult to repair while on the roof.
To help speed up the process, we opted to remove the smaller cupola from the roof. Once on the ground, we realized that the shutters on the one were damaged beyond repair. Because of the age and uniqueness of the cupola, trying to find shutters that could serve as a replacement proved to be an extremely difficult task.
Because we were not able to locate a suitable replacement, we decided to design and construct custom size shutters for the cupola. As you can see below, you can’t even tell the difference!
In an effort to make the structures watertight, we added metal flashing to the inside of the cupolas, thus significantly reducing the chance of rotting in the future.
Once the repairs were complete, our team reinstalled the cupolas, enhancing the look and feel to this already beautiful home.
