Preparing your home for the holiday season can be quite taxing on your mental, physical and monetary well-being. From cleaning the house to fixing that leaky bathroom sink you’ve been putting off for six months—the holidays are not always a time of comfort and joy for all. Fortunately, there are ways to improve your home without taking all the fun out of the holiday season.
Prioritize – When it comes to prepping your home for the holiday, there is really only one word you need to keep in mind: prioritize. What we mean by that is don’t spend lots of time and effort on improving areas of your home that don’t, well, truly need improving. For example, if the toilet in your hall bathroom requires a plunger in order to flush, you shouldn’t be worried about changing the drapes in your living room. It is just a hunch, but we are willing to bet that your guests are going to care more about being able to use the bathroom than the “mood” of your living room.
Kitchen Upgrades – The holidays wouldn’t be the holidays without large amounts of food. In order to ensure you and your kitchen are ready to handle the season of gluttony, please keep these tips in mind:
- Clear your countertops: When preparing a large meal, you will need plenty of counter space to accommodate all of your supplies. Install pot and spice racks to help clear as many items off of your counter as you can.
- Clear the chairs: While this rule may not apply for all households, if you have a cozy kitchen, it might be wise to remove the chairs to the other room(s). This way you can use the kitchen table as an extra kitchen counter.
Add Color – One of the best—and easiest—ways to spruce up your home for the holidays is by adding a splash of color to the rooms that will be entertaining your guests. We aren’t suggesting that you paint your entire house, but if your living room, which will serve as the hub for conversing, eating, drinking, is looking a little tired, a fresh coat of paint could go a long way!
