St. Louis, September 17, 2015 – The Riggs family has a longstanding tradition of supporting Kirkwood schools and community organizations. Amie and Bill Riggs are carrying out their family’s legacy of community service with their most recent gift of $3,000 towards the Walker Natatorium. Many Riggs family members have attended Kirkwood High School, as will both Amie and Bill’s children.
The $11 million dollar natatorium was paid for with a $10 million dollar donation from the Walker Foundation and another $1 million dollar donation from an anonymous person. Parents and students at Kirkwood High School have started a $3 million dollar maintenance fund in order to keep the pool in the best condition.
“Swimming is a life saving skill that every child should have the privilege of learning,” says Amie Riggs. “We wanted to donate and support the community in this endeavor as well as support our future Kirkwood High School students.”
The 410,000 gallon pool will make both the swimming and water polo team more competitive as well as open up more swimming classes for students. The pool should be completed and ready for their first aquatic classes by the end of September. To learn more about the Walker Natatorium, visit www.walkernatatorium.org.
